TCE Updates from OITP

As a follow-up to November’s TCE Conference, the Office for Information Technology Policy will hold a two-day writing workshop in February 2009 to draft library TCE principles.  We have invited a small group of folks (some who attended the TCE conference) as well as representatives from the NILA to take the first stab at the principles.  We expect that the principles will be similar to the statements crafted by the ALA community several years ago for the Principles for the Networked World.

Immediately following our writing meeting, we will share our draft for feedback.  We will invite you to share the draft with your own constituencies and organizations for comments. At ALA’s Annual conference meeting this July in Chicago, we are planning at least one program on TCE as well as an open forum for public comments on TCE issues in general and on the draft principles. We will continue to collect comments, revise the principles accordingly, and publish new drafts throughout the rest of 2009. This process will be iterative, open and participatory.

On January 24th at ALA’s Midwinter Conference in Denver, Janice Pilch, Loriene Roy,  and Carrie Russell will speak  about TCE and our November conference.  Our panel will be part of a program “International Copyright and Library Advocacy for Fair and Equitable Access to Information,” held in the Colorado Convention Center Room 205.
